Native American Societies

These ‘Societies’ carried out of the orders of the Chief, acted as police while their society was on duty; looked after the sick and needy members of the camp; enforced the discipline of the camp or march or hunt; and while doing so they were always just but unmovable in the performance of their official duties.     Welch’s descriptions of each society are incomplete, but this is all the data that could be assigned to each society.
